Our organization depends on volunteer workers so our capacity to drive and visit with seniors is limited to how many volunteers we have. Our volunteers come from churches, civic organizations, early retirees who are paying it forward, parents who are teaching their children to respect elderly citizens and anyone who has a bit of time to help a senior neighbor. (Click the blue VOLUNTEER button for an online application).
Volunteer drivers provide seniors who live nearby door-to-door rides to medical appointments, grocery stores, barber and beauty shops, pharmacies, banks, activity centers, support groups and more. A typical round trip takes 2-3 hours; a one-way drop off is about an hour.
VOLUNTEER DRIVING IS EASY! There is no minimum weekly commitment. Drivers plan trips when they’re available and set their schedules online, by phone or via email. We encourage family members — young and old — to ride along.
If you would like to help in other ways, there are several options, including friendly visitors who visit seniors in their homes; care callers, who phone seniors just to check in and chat; handymen for light home maintenance and yardwork, and
clerical helpers to help answer phones, prepare mailings, and do special projects in our regional offices Monday – Friday. (For more on those volunteer services, please see SUPPORT SERVICES.
