In becoming a Drive a Senior sponsor, organizations in have the opportunity to show they care about the well-being of families and the elderly in our community. Our sponsors are committed to community partnerships that affect change in our Austin metropolitan area. They donate valuable resources and volunteer time to make sure the non-driving seniors of our community know they are precious and appreciated members of our society.

We thank these partners (see list at right), who help us meet the transportation needs of nearly 3,000 Austin Metro area seniors.

THE NEED
More than 1 in 5 adults age 65 and older, do not drive.
More than half of non-drivers 65 or older stay home all day — in part because they lack transportation options.
Non-driving seniors can’t easily participate in the community or economy. They make fewer trips to the doctor, to shop or to eat out, and attend fewer social activities.
Almost 15% of seniors have gone without food in the past year because can’t get out.
By age 80, 70% of women and 60% of men have outlived their driving ability.
HOW CAN YOU HELP keep the elderly visible and active in our community:

  • Transport a senior neighbor once a month or more to a medical appointment, grocery store or beauty shop.
  • Visit a Senior in his or her home once a week.
  • Help a senior with minor repairs.
  • Donate to Drive a Senior to allow us to serve more of our senior neighbors.
